Stafford H. “Pop” Cassell Hall of Fame
Nomination Process and Form

Sponsored by the Cassell family, American University's Stafford H. Cassell Hall of Fame was established in 1969 to recognize and celebrate the outstanding performances and achievements
of individuals associated with American University Athletics and Recreation.

Outside of jersey retirement, induction into the Cassell Hall of Fame is the highest honor that American University can bestow upon a former student-athlete, coach or athletic administrator.
As such, the criteria below were developed by the Cassell Hall of Fame Selection Committee to
ensure that those inducted into the Cassell Hall of Fame are truly worthy of this most coveted honor.

For a former student-athlete:

  • A candidate must have received a degree from American University and completed his/her athletic eligibility no less than ten years prior to their nomination.
  • A candidate must have been an outstanding athlete and contributor at American University
who has later led a responsible life.

For a former athletic coach or administrator:

  • He/she must have been employed by American University for a minimum of four years.
  • He/she must have brought about significant change and/or success to a team or the American University Athletics Department as a whole.
