Emily Janson, who joined American University Athletics in September of 2016, was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Administration in 2018, and to Associate AD in 2024.

A member of the athletics executive staff, her responsibilities include assisting the Director of Athletics with campus-wide and department administrative duties. Janson is the sport administrator for women's basketball and cross country/track, serves as the department’s liaison for human resources, and supervises equipment operations.

In previous roles in the department, she has been the SAAC advisor and the department contact for special events including the Stafford H. "Pop" Cassell Hall of Fame Banquet, Orin R. Smith Life Skills Etiquette Dinner, and the Athletics Awards Banquet. Janson has also represented Athletics and Recreation on AU’s Staff Council.

Prior to her time at American, Janson worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as a Senior Associate in the firm’s US Public Sector business. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Notre Dame where she was a student manager for both the football and men's lacrosse teams. She holds membership in Women Leaders in College Sports and the Junior League of Washington.

Formerly Emily Light, she resides in Arlington, Va with her husband Peter and their two children, Caroline and Teddy.
