Biddulph's Monster Night Leads to Win Over Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - Cutrina Biddulph's (Reseda, Calif./Granada Falls) career-high 26 kills and 10 digs helped American University volleyball survive a loss in game one in a 3-1 victory over Lafayette Friday night in Easton, Pa.

American, which was playing its third match in as many days, came out flat in game one and hit just .174. Meanwhile, Lafayette hit .327 and pulled out game one in extra points, 34-32.

However, Biddulph pulled the Eagles up with her play. No other Eagle had more than Natacha Cornaz's (Lausanne, Switzerland/Gymnase Auguste Piccard) and Elizabeth Maloney's (Toronto, Canada/Richview C.I.) nine kills.

American's defense picked up in game two, allowing the Leopards to hit just .105. Despite hitting just .217 themselves, the Eagles pulled out the second game, 30-25. AU then hit .318 and .333 in games three and four to cruise to 30-24 and 30-20 wins and capture the match.

Senior libero Sabrina Vasconcelos (Fortaleza, Brazil/Colegio Christus) led AU with 16 digs, while Cornaz and Maloney chipped in 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Setter Courtney Mulford (San Diego, Calif./La Costa Canyon) also had a stellar match, hitting .545 with seven kills, 48 assists and seven digs.

American, which moves to 12-5 overall and 7-0 in the Patriot League, extends its league winning streak to 55 matches. The Eagles return to action on Oct. 19 when they host George Washington.
