Russ Friedland brings diverse coaching and playing experience to American University. Friedland has head coaching experience at the college level and was a four-year letterwinner at Endicott College. Friedland joins head coach Barry Goldberg's coaching staff after guiding Daniel Webster College's men's and women's volleyball teams in 2007. While coaching the women's team he was also entrusted with reinstituting the men's team to varsity status. Before taking the head coaching position at Daniel Webster, Friedland served as an assistant coach at his alma mater during the 2006 season. As a collegian, Friedland helped the Gulls to a four-year record of 67-46 and a conference mark of 51-15. Friedland's teams earned three-consecutive conference tournament bearths and East Coast Athletic Conference Final Four appearances in 2004 and 2005. Friedland currently ranks in the program's top-ten in seven categories including second in total blocks, third in assists and ninth in kills and digs. During the 2004 season, Friedland served as an undergraduate assistant at the University of Connecticut. He was also an assistant to the Director and Coach at the Connecticut Elite Volleyball Camp in 2003 and 2004. Friedland graduated from Endicott with a bachelor of arts degree in sport management in 2005. In 2006 he completed his Master of Business Administration from Endicott.
