LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the second straight season, American University outside hitter Aleksandra Kazala was voted to the All-East Region first team, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

Sophomore middle blocker Vela McBride earned honorable mention All-Region, picking up her first regional honor.

Kazala, a junior from Debica, Poland, becomes the fifth Eagle to earn All-Region twice. She joins Ajola Berisha, Karla Kucerkova, Rubena Sukaj and Monika Smidova in that honor.

The Patriot League Player of the Year, Kazala is among the nation's leaders in kills per set and points per set. Earlier this season she hit the 1,000-kill plateau for her career and was named the MVP of the Patriot League Tournament.

Her honor marks the fifth straight season the Eagles have had a member of the All-Region first team.

McBride, a sophomore from Reston, Va., led the Patriot League and is second all-time at AU with her .412 hitting percentage. She was a second team All-PL selection and is the fourth Eagle in four seasons to earn honorable mention.

American, which won its fifth consecutive Patriot League championship, finished its season with a 26-8 record after losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 7th-ranked Brigham Young.
