CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – A milestone achievement has lifted American University setter Kennedy Etheridge to her first Patriot League Player of the Week Award, the league office announced Monday.
Etheridge, a junior from Overland Park, Kan., reached 2,000 career assists during the Eagles' win Saturday at Lehigh. She finished AU's two road victories with 66 assists, 14 digs, five kills and two blocks.
Also this week, freshman outside Helena Elbaek earned honorable mention from the league in its weekly release. Elbaek led the Eagles offensively with 10 kills in Friday's win at Lafayette, and had 13 in the win over Lehigh.
American has won 14 straight matches and is currently 22-7 overall and 13-1 in league play. The Eagles have a two-game lead over Navy with just two regular-season matches remaining for every team.
Any AU win this weekend or any loss by the Midshipmen in their final two matches would clinch home-court advantage in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.
On Friday at 7 p.m., AU plays host to Colgate, which has won six straight to join a battle for a spot in the PL Tournament. Bucknell comes to Bender Arena at 2 p.m. on Sunday as the Eagles celebrate Senior Day.
Tickets for all AU home volleyball matches are available at the Bender Arena Box Office. General admission seats are $8 for adults and $5 for children. AU students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
