@AU_Volleyball Faces Midweek Match at Loyola

Kristen Largay hits a backset

BALTIMORE – American University will take its eight-match winning streak to the north on Tuesday when it plays at Loyola Maryland in a Patriot League volleyball match at 7 p.m.

The Eagles survived a PL road trip last weekend by beating Bucknell and Colgate, and faces its third straight league battle on the road on Tuesday. American comes into the match at 16-7 overall and tied with Navy for first place in the league with a 7-1 mark.

Sophomore libero Kristen Largay earned honorable mention from the league in its Player of the Week voting on Monday. Largay, who is third in the PL at 4.61 digs, had 22 digs in the five-set, comeback win over Colgate, posting her eighth match of the season with 20 or more digs.

Junior outside Aleksandra Kazala is seventh in NCAA Division I at 4.77 kills per set and leads the Patriot League by more than a full kill. She is ninth on the digs list with a 3.37 dps average.

Sophomore Vela McBride has taken over the team lead in blocks with 57, with junior Cheyenne Orsi just behind with 55. Orsi had her second match of the season with double figures in kills against the Raiders with 10.

The Greyhounds come into Tuesday's match in sixth place in the PL standings with a 3-5 mark and a 9-12 overall record. AU swept Loyola, 3-0, in a match played earlier this season at Bender Arena.

Sophomore outside Ann Ernst leads Loyola at 3.40 kills per set, with junior middle Haley Puddy at 2.67.

American returns to Bender Arena on Friday for a 7 p.m. battle with Navy in a matchup of PL leaders.

Tickets to all AU home volleyball matches are available at the Bender Arena Box Office. General admission seats are $8 for adults and $5 for children. AU students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
