WORCESTER, MASS. – American University continues the early portion of its Patriot League schedule this weekend with trips to Holy Cross (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Army West Point (Saturday, 8:30 p.m.).

The Eagles are 8-7 overall after losing a tight match on Tuesday to Navy. American is tied for fourth in the league with a 1-1 mark, having opened conference play with a home sweep of Loyola Maryland.

AU and the Midshipmen played four sets that included a total of 45 ties. Both the first and second sets went past the normal 25-point mark, with Navy outlasting AU in 29-27 and 27-25 wins.

Junior outside Aleksandra Kazala had 24 kills and 22 digs in Tuesday's match, the second time this season she's had at least 20 kills and 20 digs in a match. She leads the Patriot League with a 4.85 kills-per-set average that is more than one kill better than Katie Kerins of Holy Cross, who ranks second.

Sophomore libero Kristen Largay is third in the league with a 4.70 digs-per-set average, while senior middle Erin Swartz has a team-high 40 blocks for the Eagles. American is 2-2 on the road so far this year.

Holy Cross has lost five straight matches to fall to 3-11 overall and 0-2 in the PL. The Crusaders have lost at Lafayette in four sets and at Lehigh in three to open their league schedule.

Kerins, a freshman, averages 3.62 kills per set so far this season, while junior middle Kristen Somerville (1.14 blocks per set) and freshman libero Sophie VanSeveren (PL-best 6.05 digs per set) leads the Holy Cross defense.

Army West Point comes into the weekend currently tied for first place with Lehigh and Navy with a 2-0 league mark. The Black Knights opened their season last weekend with road sweeps of Bucknell and Lafayette, part of a four-match winning streak.

Senior middle Carolyn Bockrath leads the PL with a .410 hitting percentage, and Army sits first, fourth (senior Vanessa Wesley) and fifth (senior Rachel Gearon) in that stat. Bockrath has a team-best 3.33 kills-per-set average.

Freshman Ana Oglivie leads Army in digs at 3.37 per set.

American's next home match is on Wednesday, Oct. 4 against Delaware State. The Eagles also play host to Lehigh (Friday) and Lafayette (Saturday) next week.
