CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Helena Elbaek had her first two matches with double figures in kills last weekend, earning her the Patriot League Volleyball Rookie of the Week Award, the league office announced Monday.
Elbaek, a freshman from Ikast, Denmark, had 13 kills on Friday in a five-set loss at UNC Greensboro and followed with 19 kills against Coastal Carolina when junior outside Aleksandra Kazala sat out the match with an injury.
The matches were played in the Spartan Spiketacular, a quickly arranged tournament at UNCG to replace a tournament in Gainesville, Fla., that the Eagles and Spartans did not attend due to Hurricane Irma.
Elbaek has moved into second on the team in kills behind Kazala. She is tied for third on the team with 22 blocks.
Maggie Phillips of Navy was the PL's Player of the Week, an award won last week by Kazala.
The Eagles host the American Volleyball Classic this weekend. AU plays host to Princeton on Friday at 7 p.m., before facing Iowa (10 a.m.) and Howard (7 p.m.) on Saturday.
Tickets to all AU home volleyball matches are available at the Bender Arena Box Office. All seats are general admission and are $8 for adults and $5 for children. AU students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
