WASHINGTON – American University will put a three-match winning streak on the line Tuesday night when it hosts Morgan State at 7 p.m. in a non-conference volleyball match at Bender Arena.
The Eagles, now 4-3, swept Sacred Heart, Stony Brook and the host Crimson last weekend at the Harvard Invitational. The Eagles were the only team in the tournament to go 3-0.
AU junior outside hitter Aleksandra Kazala was selected as the MVP of the Harvard Invitational and was joined on the all-tournament team by sophomore libero Kristen Largay and senior middle Erin Swartz.
Kazala was also selected as the Patriot League Player of the Week for her work in Boston, which included three double-doubles, two matches with more than 20 kills and a career-high 19 digs in the win over Stony Brook.
Largay, averaging 4.4 digs per set, leads the Eagles defense, along with sophomore middle Vela McBride, who has a team-best 23 blocks. Junior Kennedy Etheridge and freshman Olivia Wassner shared setting duties at the Harvard tournament.
Morgan State comes to Bender Arena on Tuesday with a 1-5 record. The Bears earned a four-set victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their most recent match at the Redhawks Invitational, hosted by Southeast Missouri.
Junior outside Cristen Coryatt leads the Morgan State offense with 3.71 kills per set, while sophomore Roi Wallace is the setter. Junior middle Monette Daniels has 14 blocks in the Bears six matches thus far.
Tickets for all AU home volleyball matches are available at the Bender Arena Box Office. General admission seats are $8 and $5 for children. All AU students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
