The American University volleyball team returns to Bender Arena for the first time in nearly a month when it hosts UMBC on Wednesday, September 25 at 7 p.m.
American (13-1) is back in Washington, D.C. after a successful outing in California last weekend. The Eagles finished with a 3-1 mark in matches on the West Coast, closing out the trip with three consecutive wins. Juliana Crum was named the Patriot League Player of the Week after leading American with four straight double-doubles. Kristyna Lindovska averaged 3.37 kps and Monika Smidova finished with 7.64 aps over the four matches.
Lindovska leads the Patriot League with 3.51 kps on the year while Kelly McCaddin and Morgan Hendrix are ranked first (.440) and second (.358), respectively, in hitting percentage. Smidova is second in the conference with 9.97 aps and Hendrix is also ranked second in the Patriot League averaging 1.02 bps.
UMBC (9-5) finished with a 2-1 mark at the Gold and Blue Players Challenge over the weekend, falling to host West Virginia, 3-1, in its final match to snap an eight-game winning streak. Ali Goc registered a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs in the loss while Hannah Schmidt and Casey Griffith tallied 12 digs apiece.
Goc leads the Retrievers with 2.88 kps on the year and Mallory McIntyre has paced the offense with 9.83 aps. Schmidt and Krystal Mlemchukwu have registered 0.88 and 0.86 bps, respectively, for UMBC with Griffith notching 4.06 dps.
American holds an 18-3 advantage in the all-time series against the Retrievers. The two teams last met in 2010 with the Eagles picking up a 3-0 sweep in Baltimore, Md.
