April 26, 2005
WASHINGTON - American University sophomore Julia Colarusso (Downington, Pa./Downington) has been named to the First Team All-Patriot League, league officials announced Tuesday.
Colarusso earned wins in both singles and doubles against Lafayette and a win at the No. 1 singles spot against Colgate. She also had a solid fall season, winning a pair of matches at the UMBC tournament and capturing the doubles title with teammate Rachael Honig (Worcester, Mass./Bancroft School) at the Georgetown Invitational. Last season, the Downington, Pa., native set the Eagles' single season record for doubles victories when she compiled 21 wins.
"This is a well deserved award for Julia," said AU head coach Carol Daniels. "She has worked hard all year and I am glad that the Patriot League coaches have recognized the quality player she is."
The Eagles struggled in team play this season, going 1-18 overall and 0-5 in the Patriot League. Nadia Curcic, a senior from Bucknell, earned the Player of the Year honors while Army's Christine Ong was named as the Rookie of the Year. Army's Paul Peck was named as the Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career.
