Women's Tennis Close Out Season with 6-1 Loss to UMBC

WASHINGTON - American University's women's tennis team finished the 2005 season with a 6-1 loss at home to UMBC.

The Retrievers swept the doubles matches, earning the team point. The UMBC team of Pedergnana and Lim defeated Colarusso (Downington, Pa./Downington) and Hollyn-Taub (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) by an 8-4 score at the No. 1 spot, with AU's Brandi Kligman (Milburn, N.J./Short Hills) and Rachael Honig (Worcester, Mass./Bancroft School) losing by the same score at the No. 2 position. UMBC won the final doubles match by a 8-1 margin.

Colarusso won the first set of her match against Pedergnana at the No. 1 singles spot but ultimately lost by a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 score. Sophomore Merrisa Hollinger (Westminister, Md./Westminister) was the lone Eagle to capture a win, defeating Gabriela Furdyna, 3-6, 6-4 (10-6). The Retrievers took the remaining singles matches to seal the 6-1 victory.

The Eagles finish the season with a 1-18 record, 0-5 in the Patriot League, but lose just one senior to graduation.
