Women's Tennis Drops Two Matches On The Weekend

WASHINGTON - American University's women's tennis fell to 0-3 in the Patriot League this weekend with home losses to Lehigh and Army.

Against Lehigh, the Eagles were able to win just one match, with sophomore Rachael Honig (Worcester, Mass./Bancroft School) defeating Lindsay Long by a 6-3, 6-2 score at the No. 3 singles spot. The Mountain Hawks swept the doubles matches with Honig and Brandi Kligman (Milburn, N.J./Short Hills) keeping the No. 2 spot competitive but ultimately losing the match 8-5. Sophomore Tessa Hollyn-Taub (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) played well at the second singles spot, winning the second set to Lehigh's Alexis Jacobi.

AU struggled on Sunday against Army, losing 7-0 to the Patriot League leaders. The Black Knights swept the doubles point, winning two of the matches by perfect 8-0 scores. Army's Christine Ong defeated AU's Julia Colarusso (Downington, Pa./Downington) 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot, while Merrisa Hollinger (Westminister, Md./Westminister) was defeated by a 6-1, 6-3 score to Lyndsey Nott. Brynne Ward (Stone Mountain, Ga./Paideia) fell to Christine Limsiaco at the No. 6 position by a 6-4, 6-1 score.

American now owns a 1-13 record overall and will travel across town to face rival George Washington on April 7. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
