Women's Tennis Falls to Campbell, 4-2

Cary, N.C. - American University women's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision on the road Friday against Campbell.

AU won the doubles point with the tandem of Aleksandra Zerkalova (Moscow, Russia/N1218) and Rachael Honig (Worcester, Mass./Bancroft School) downing the Camels' No. 2 doubles team by an 8-5 score. Merrisa Hollinger (Westminister, Md./Westminister) and Brandi Kligman (Milburn, N.J./Short Hills) defeated the Campbell tandem of Gore and Rollet by an 8-5 margin to seal the doubles point for the team.

Zerkalova took the No. 2 singles point, dropping Campbell's Nina Surviladze 6-1, 6-4. The Camels won four singles points to seal the victory. Sophomore Julia Colarusso (Downington, Pa./Downington) fell at the No. 1 singles spot 6-1, 6-0 to Georgiana Marta. Campell's Scarlet Alfonzo defeated Honig at the No. 3 singles position by a 6-0, 6-1 margin. Kligman lost a 6-1, 6-0 match at the No. 5 spot and Hollinger was swept 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 singles position. AU sophomore Tessa Hollyn-Taub's (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) match against Stacey Batkiewicz stood at 7-6, 2-6, 6-6 when the ended the match because Campbell had already accumulated the necessary team points needed for the win.

The Eagles, who are now 1-7 on the season, will travel up to Baltimore next, when they face Towson on March 16 at 3 p.m.
