Women's Tennis Falls 7-0 to East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The American University women's tennis team fell to 1-6 overall Thursday with a 7-0 loss to East Carolina.

The Pirates swept the doubles point as the Eagles were able to win just five of eight of the 32 games. The AU tandem of Alexandra Zerkalova (Moscow, Russia/Moscow N1218) and Rachael Honig (Worcester, Mass./Bancroft School) lost 8-3 at the No. 2 doubles spot. Brandi Kligman (Milburn, N.J./Short Hills) and Merissa Hollinger (Westminister, Md./Westminister) also dropped a 8-3 decision to the Pirates at the No. 3 doubles spot.

AU sophomore Julia Colarusso (Downington, Pa./Downington) was defeated 6-0,6-3 at the top singles spot to the Pirate's Kirstin Buchanan. Zerkalova was downed 6-4, 6-2 to Gillie Bailey at the No. 2 spot, while Honig, Tessa Hollyn-Taub (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and Hollinger were defeated 6-0, 6-0 by their opponents. Kligman lost by a 6-0, 6-1 margin at the No. 5 singles spot to Luiza Boeges.

The Eagles will wrap up their three-match swing in the state of North Carolina on Friday, March 11, when they take on Campbell at 1 p.m.
