Women's Tennis Downed 7-0 by Xavier

MONTCLAIR, Va. - The American University Women's Tennis Team fell to 1-4 overall after losing a 7-0 decision against Xavier on Saturday.

The Muskateers swept the doubles point to go up 1-0 with Lauren Clary and Stephanie Bauer defeating Sasha Zerkalova (Moscow, Russia/Moscow N1218) and Julia Colarusso (Downington, Pa./Downington). The AU tandem of Tessa Hollyn-Taub (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and Rachael Honig (Worcester, Mass./Bancroft School) were defeated 8-2 by Kristen Clary and Jackie Valines. The third AU doubles pair of Brandi Kligman (Milburn, N.J./Short Hills) and Merissa Hollinger (Westminister, Md./Westminister) dropped a 8-2 decision to Xavier's Annie Diedalis and Alicia Papa.

The Eagles were unable to win a singles match as well, with Zerkalova being bested by Lauren Clary by a 6-2, 6-0 margin. Kristen Clary defeated Colarusso 6-2, 6-1 and Hollyn-Taub was downed by Bauer by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Honig was defeated by Vilines by a 6-1, 6-3 tally and Diedalis put Kligman away 8-2. Xavier's Papa downed Hollinger 8-0 to boost the Muskateer's record to 7-4.

The Eagles will be back in action on March 9, when they travel to Wilmington, N.C. to take on UNC-Wilmington. The match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
