WASHINGTON - American University women's soccer players Kelsey Brasher and Friederike Engel were named Third-Team National Soccer Coaches Association of American Mid-Atlantic All-Region, NSCAA officials announced recently, becoming the first-ever Eagles to be named All-Region in the program's 15-year history.

After the conclusion of this past season, Brasher earned First Team All-Patriot League for the first time of her career. The sophomore forward was explosive this season, ranking first on the team and second in the conference with 29 points, combining 13 goals with three assists. Brasher registered points in 11 out of 18 games this season, tallying a career-high six points in American's home opener. Brasher was honored as the Patriot League BRINE Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2007.

Engel became the first player in American University women's soccer history to win Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors. She was just one of two freshmen league-wide to be named First-Team All-PL. She scored two goals on the season, including a game-winner. Engel was also part of a defensive corps that allowed just 15 goals all season.

"It's very exciting for our program as a whole to have a freshman and sophomore earn this recognition," Head Coach Mike Brady said. "Both Kelsey and Friederike are well-deserving and worked very hard for it."
