AU's Krystn Hodge Named Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year

WASHINGTON - American University women's soccer standout Krystn Hodge was named the 2007 Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, conference officials announced on Wednesday. Since joining the Patriot League in 2001-02, Hodge is the first women's soccer student-athlete to represent American University with this achievement.

A Psychology major with a 3.70 cumulative grade-point average, Hodge boasts one of the top GPA's on the team. After joining the squad as a walk-on in the 2006 season, the Rye, N.Y., native was named to the 2006 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in her first season of competition. Earlier in the season, Hodge was selected to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team.

On the field, the junior forward had a breakout season for the Eagles, ranking second on the squad with 22 points, coming from nine goals and a team-leading four assists. She registered points in eight out of 19 games this season, including two four-point games and one five-point game. Hodge also ranked in the top-five in the Patriot League in several categories, ranking first in game-winning goals with five, tying for third in goals with nine, and coming in fourth in goals per game (0.53), points (22) and points per game (1.29). Hodge is also tied for seventh in assists, tallying seven on the season. The junior was a key offensive component on an American team that finished the regular season with an undefeated 4-0-3 record.

In the 2007 season, Hodge was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 24th, scoring two goals and registering an assist in the 3-1 win over George Mason. With nine goals on the season, Hodge broke into American University's All-Time Stats and Records for most goals in a season, tying for ninth place.

To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
