AU Women's Soccer Out in the Community

Sept. 15, 2008
WASHINGTON - On Friday, September 12th, members of the American University women's soccer team and coaching staff volunteered their time at the Janney Elementary School in Washington, D.C. Head coach Dave Bucciero and assistant Valerie Rauenzahn joined student-athletes Tatiana Bertolo, Kelsey Brasher, Marissa Crollett, Krystn Hodge, Alex Kitrilakis, Kelly McLaughlin, Erin Stebbins, and Kelsey Wiggins in a visit to the local elementary school near the AUcampus.
The players spent the morning reading books to six classrooms that ranged from pre-kindergarten to third grade. The student-athletes read books picked out by the classroom teachers to the children. In a few classrooms after the books were complete the athletes led games of `Simon Says' and opened the floor to questions.
"It is a privilege to be a student-athlete at American University and our players realize they are role models for many of these young boys and girls," Bucciero said. "Hopefully, the children enjoyed spending a little bit of time getting to know some of our players."
