Five Eagles Named to Patriot League Women's Soccer All League Teams

WASHINGTON - Five American University women's soccer players have been selected to the Patriot League All League teams by the league's coaches, the Patriot League announced today. Sophomore midfielder Simone Konig (Gartringen, Germany/School of Economics in Boblingen) and senior midfielder Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis) were named to the First Team. Sophomores Marcela Ricupero (Las Violetas, Monteserrin/Academia Cotopaxi) and Lena Winkler (Denver, Colo./St. Mary's Academy) and freshman Christina Gonzalez (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) were named to the league's Second Team. Konig, who was named to the Patriot League Second Team last season, is fifth all-time on AU's career scoring list with 34 points, including seven goals, in 38 games. Her 20 assists are the most ever by an Eagle, and her 13 assists in 2002 set an AU single-season record. Konig has also scored three game-winning goals in her career. Jimenez's 23 goals, 16 assists and 62 points are all third on the school's all-time scoring lists. She is also ninth all-time in games played, with 69, and has tallied five game-winning goals. Ricupero's 29 points ties her for seventh in AU history. Winkler, a defender, has started all but one game in her AU career. She was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 13. With four goals, Gonzalez is tied for seventh for most goals as a freshman. The Eagles host the Patriot League Championship Tournament, beginning Friday, Nov. 7. American hosts Army at 11 a.m. on Reeves Field and Colgate and Navy square off at 1:30 p.m. The winners will meet on Reeves Field for the league championship on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
