Jimenez Earns Her First Brine Player of the Week Award

WASHINGTON - Senior midfielder Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md. / Bullis) has been named the Brine Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 20. This is the first time that she has received this award this season. Jimenez had a spectacular offensive week, scoring a hat trick against Navy, including the unassisted game winning goal to help lead the Eagles to a 5-4 overtime victory. In addition to the three goals scored, she also had an assist against Navy. This win against Navy is only AU's second win ever over Navy, with the last being in the Patriot League tournament in 2002. As the Eagles took on LeHigh, Jimenez scored American's first goal of the game, after a nice lead pass from Amy Muller (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side. This was her eighth goal of the season, and the 21st of her career. Currently, Jimenez leads the team in goals and assists. She is the third in the league in goals and second for assists. The Eagles are now 7-5-1 overall, and 4-1-0 in the Patriot League American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women's sports and nine for men, completed its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men's cross country, women's cross country, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's tennis, women's tennis and women's volleyball, and a regular-season title in men's basketball.
