American Shuts Out Youngstown State, 4-0

October 8, 2003

WASHINGTON - Senior Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis) scored two goals, and assisted on another to lead American University to a 4-0 victory over Youngstown State. Marcela Ricupero (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Academia Cotopaxi) got things going for AU when she knocked in a rebound for the first score of the game. Jimenez had taken the original shot and Youngstown goalie Mia Railing made the save, however she could not control it. Ricupero took advantage of the situation, and kicked it to the lower left side of the net (21:57). Jana Lee (New Providence, N.J./Summit) scored the Eagles second goal of the game when she collected a pass from Jimenez, and lofted a shot over the goalkeeper. The goal came with just 26 seconds left in the first half. Jimenez scored the third goal of the game at 56:46 on a beautiful move. She took the ball down the left side of the field, and then cut towards the middle. The move got rid of her defender, and then she beat the goalie to the left side. Her final goal of the game came at 86:35 when Lee found her with a perfect pass. The five points gives her 48 for her career, good for third on AU's all-time scoring list. Lauren Wohl (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air/Bucknell) registered one save in 64 minutes and faced just two shots. Alison Doyle (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Catholic) finished up the last 26 minutes and recorded two saves on three shots. The Eagles dominated play against the Penguins statistically, outshooting them 46-5.
