WASHINGTON - The American University women's soccer team tied George Washington, 1-1, Friday in their fifth and final spring match. The exhibition was played in very warm conditions at GW.
Freshman Brooke Sheppard got the Eagles on the board in the first half with a 20-yard strike into the upper left corner of the goal.
GW was able to tie the match late in the 2nd half. American came out in a 3-5-2 formation for the first time this spring before changing to their standard 4-4-2 shape in the second half. American finished its spring season without a loss, earning two wins and three ties.
"I was disappointed with the way we finished both the first and second halves," AU head coach David Bucciero said. "We must learn to be stronger mentally and not lose our concentration during these crucial moments. On a positive note, it is great that we have been able to get goals from different players and our back line has played well all spring. This has been a very productive off-season and I am happy with where we are at as a team".
