AU Women's Soccer Defeats Loyola, 2-0, in Spring Game

April 17, 2008
BALTIMORE, Md. - The American University women's soccer team continued its successful spring season by defeating Loyola yesterday, 2-0, in Baltimore.
The Eagles got on the board early as sophomore Mary Riegler ran on to a free kick from Erin Stebbins, and scored from just inside the penalty box. Ten minutes later, sophomore Kelsey Brasher ran on to a beautifully placed cross from Friederike Engel and headed in the Eagles second goal of the day.
Lindsey Farthing and Kelsey Wiggins each played a half in goal in the win and contributed to AU's third shutout this spring. Wiggins was tested several times in the second half and helped preserve the shutout with a number of key saves.
"I am very pleased with most of what I saw today," said American head coach David Bucciero. "We scored two fantastic goals and I thought for the most part defended very well as a team. We let down a bit in the last 25 minutes of the match and were fortunate not to give up any goals. However, I thought we fought hard for 90 minutes and at times moved the ball very well. This was a nice win against a very good Loyola team"
