AU Women's Soccer Ties Towson, 1-1, in Spring Friendly

April 4, 2008

WASHINGTON - The American University Women's Soccer team tied Towson, 1-1, in a spring match yesterday afternoon in the rain at Reeves Field. The game was played in three periods of soccer that lasted 30 minutes each with the final score ending in the one-all draw.

AU struck first during the opening period as Kelsey Brasher ran on to a free kick from Friederike Engel, and scored from just inside the penalty box. Towson was able to even things up in the 2nd period on an own goal by AU.

The Eagles had a number of chances in both the second and third periods, hitting the post and forcing a number of good saves from the Towson goalkeeper.

"After the first period, I was much happier with how we played," AU Head Coach David Bucciero said. "Despite the weather, I thought we moved the ball very well in the second and third periods and were a bit unlucky not to score a few more goals."

The Eagles will continue spring play next with a game at Loyola on April 16th. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
