American Hires David Bucciero as Head Women's Soccer Coach

March 5, 2008
WASHINGTON - American University Director of Athletics and Recreation, Keith Gill, has announced the hiring of David Bucciero as its head women's soccer coach on Wednesday. Bucciero comes to American after serving as the associate head coach at Boston University.
"We are especially pleased to have David lead our women's soccer program," Gill said. "He has a clear record of achievement and has proven himself to be a thoughtful, talented coach who will represent American University well."
Bucciero spent the previous seven seasons at BU, being promoted to the associate head coach position in 2005. During his tenure, the Terriers went 73-37-17, captured four America East Conference Championships and made five NCAA Tournament appearances. Bucciero assisted in developing 15 America East All-Conference First Team Selections and helped lead the program to its highest national ranking ever in 2006, as the Terriers were ranked No. 10 in the country.
"I am thrilled and excited about coming to American University," Bucciero said. "There is also a bit of sadness as I leave the BU community, my mentor and friend Nancy Feldman and my fellow coaches and the team."
"I thank Keith Gill and everyone at American University for giving me this opportunity," Bucciero continued. I look forward to working at such a reputable institution and with the exceptional young women on the team. Their recent accomplishments are great building blocks for our future success."
During his time at BU, Bucciero was also serving as the head goalkeeper coach for the Under 14 Region 1 Olympic Developmental Program. He served as a Massachusetts ODP Girl's Head Coach from 2003-06.
Bucciero also spent time with the Boston Renegades W-League team as an assistant coach and aided in leading the squad to a National Championship in 2001. He was the assistant women's soccer coach at Texas Tech from 1998-2001 and also spent time as the Director of Coaching for the Lubbock Elite Youth Soccer Club.
A native of Vienna, Va., Bucciero was a four-year letterman in goal at James Madison University. In his final two years at JMU, Bucciero helped lead the Dukes to the NCAA quarterfinals. He holds a United States Soccer Federation `A' License as well as an NSCAA Advanced License.
American University's women's soccer team is coming off of a 10-5-3 record. The Eagles fell just short of an NCAA berth, falling to Navy, 2-0, in the Patriot League Semifinals. The Eagles return PL Women's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year, Krystn Hodge, and Third-Team NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region selections, Kelsey Brasher and Friederike Engel. Also returning are all-league selections Olivia Heditsian, Kelsey Wiggins, Erin Stebbins.
