Box Score

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The American University women's soccer team played Patriot League foe Army to a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes of action on Sunday at West Point. The Eagles are now 5-9-4 (2-1-3 PL), and have tied their last three opponents. The Black Knights are 11-4-2 (4-0-2 PL) and remain unbeaten in league play.

The Eagles had a great first half and had the majority of the opportunities early on. Lindsay Miller and Erin Stebbins each took shots in the opening minutes of play, but neither hit the target. American had a 7-1 advantage in shots in the first half, but was unable to get a goal.

Army swarmed the AU net to open the second half, as Kelsey Wiggins made a save on Dymon Washington at 52:46. Eagles defender Olivia Heditsian made a great play, clearing a ball off the line with Wiggins out of position a little over two minutes later on a Washington shot to keep the score at 0-0.

The Black Knights held an 8-5 advantage in shots in the second half, but neither team was able to capitalize, forcing overtime.

Each side took one shot in the first 10 minute overtime, but both teams would turn it up a notch in the second overtime. AU came out firing, as Marissa Crollett, Allison Slattery and Krystn Hodge each took shots in the first three minutes, but were unable to beat Army keeper Alex Lostetter. The Black Knights would outshoot the Eagles 5-1 over the final four minutes of the game, but Wiggins was up to the task, making four saves to end the game in a draw.

"We played very well in the first half and moved the ball extremely well to create a number of chances," said AU head coach Dave Bucciero. "Unfortunately, similarly to the Holy Cross game we lost our way a little bit. We have to be mentally stronger to put forth a second half that is as strong as the first half. And in the lost two games that has cost us."

Wiggins finished with eight saves on the day and Tatiana Bertolo led the Eagles offense with four shots.

American will conclude its regular season on Sat. Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. at Bucknell.
