AU Women's Soccer Wins Third Straight with 5-0 Win over Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - American University women's soccer remains undefeated in Patriot League play after posting a 5-0 victory over Lafayette on Sunday afternoon at the Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium. The Eagles improve to 9-5-0 overall and 3-0-0 in league action.

After freeing herself from a scramble in the 18-yard box and keeping possession, sophomore forward Kelsey Brasher netter her first of two goals early in the game, giving the Eagles a 1-0 advantage just over eight minutes into the half. AU continued to pressure the Leopards' defense and earned a direct kick from 25 yards out. Freshman midfielder Friederike Engel seized the opportunity to extend American's lead to two and tallied her second goal of the season.

After opening the second half with a 2-0 lead, American University piled on three more goals to finish the day with a season-high five-goal victory. Sophomore Erin Stebbins scored her first collegiate goal just under ten minutes into the final frame, with Brasher netting her second goal of the game and her team-leading ninth of the season just two minutes later. On an assist from Linsey Sledge, Krystn Hodge sealed the victory with a goal in the 88th minute. After assisting on two goals and scoring one of her own, Hodge finished the game with four points.

The Eagles' defense dominated the Leopards' attack, holding the hosts to just three shots in 90 minutes. Amrican registered 11 shots of its own and also held the 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Brasher combines nine goals and two assists for a team-high 20 points, while Hodge is right behind her with 17 points (7g, 3a). Brasher's nine goals now ties her for ninth place in American University's record book for goals in a season.

Since joining the Patriot League in 2001, this is the first time in the team's history American University opened conference action 3-0.

After three straight road contests, American University women's soccer returns to its home turf for the first time in over three weeks on Sunday, Oct. 21 when it hosts Navy at 1 p.m.
