NEW YORK, N.Y. - AU Women's Soccer Dealt 5-0 Loss By Columbia Eagles fall to 3-4-1 on the season.

The American University women's soccer team fell by a 5-0 score to non-conference Columbia on Friday, Sept. 19 in New York City. The Eagles fall to 3-4-1 on the season, while the Lions improve to 3-2-1.

The AU offense was firing on all cylinders in the early minutes of the opening half. Friederike Engel took the first shot of the game two minutes and 30 seconds into the game that forced Lions keeper Lillian Klein to make a save. Klein then came up with another pair of saves off shots on goal from Brooke Sheppard and Marissa Crollett to keep the Eagles off the board.

Columbia took its first shot of the contest in the 12th minute, but AU goalkeeper Kelsey Wiggins stopped the shot. The Lions would capitalize on their next opportunity, however, 33:12 into the first half off of a free kick. Ashley Mistele sent a ball to the far post off the restart and found the head of Ashlin Yahr for a 1-0 lead that they would take into the intermission.

AU had no answer for Yahr in the second half as the freshman forward set up Columbia's second goal of the game in the 53rd minute of play when she flicked the ball on to Sophie Reiser for the score. Yahr tallied her third goal of the season and second of the contest just over seven minutes later on a rebound off of a Wiggins save to up the lead to 3-0.

Nora Dooley made it 4-0 in favor of the Lions at 61:38 when she took the ball down the right flank and sent a shot from 15 yards out over Wiggins' head. Keri Nobil finished off the Columbia scoring at 77:34 for the 5-0 final.

Wiggins finished with four saves in the contest while Klein made eight stops for the Lions. Columbia held a 12-9 advantage in shots.

AU will finish their New York road trip on Sunday with a non-conference match at 1 p.m. at Long Island University.
