WASHINGTON - Marissa Crollett scored in the 65th minute to lead the American University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over UMBC on Sunday at Georgetown. The 5-1 Crollett scored her first goal of her career off of a header on the far post from a ball sent from Lindsey Miller. Erin Koch also earned an assist on the play.

AU (1-2) controlled the majority of the possession in the game. The Eagles outshot the Retrievers by a tally of 14-3, but were unable to capitalize until the second half. Kelsey Brasher led AU with three shots on goal, as eight of the 13 field players recorded shots in the game.

"We did a number of positive things today," said AU head coach David Bucciero, who earned his first win as a head coach. "I am pleased with the way we stuck to our game plan until we finally got a goal. We were persistent and kept our confidence even though we were unable to capitalize early on when we were dominating the game."

AU will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 2 as they will play a 4 p.m. match at Mount St. Mary's.
