American University women’s soccer head coach Anabel Hering has announced the addition of Yewande Balogun to the 2015 coaching staff in mid-March.
Balogun was a star goalkeeper at the University of Maryland from 2007-11, helping the Terrapins to Sweet 16 appearances in 2009 and 2011. A 2010 All-ACC Academic Team and All-Tournament Team selection, she is the all-time record-holder at UMD in goals-against average (0.93) and second in the Terps’ record book in career shutouts (19) and goalie games started (64).
"I'm very excited to have Yewande join the American University coaching staff. She played at a very high collegiate level and will bring a lot of competitiveness as well as a good work ethic to this team,” said Hering. “She will be a great asset in coaching our goalkeepers, the back line and mentoring our student-athletes. She will also assist in continuing to recruit great talent for the program."
The Bowie, Md., native has worked as a goalkeeper coach since 2008, starting at the Pell’s Keeper School, holding the appointment until 2013.
Balogun served as the assistant coach for the U15 1DAA Warriors and U11 3MSC Stallions in 2013 before taking over as the goalkeeper trainer for the Severna Park Soccer Club in 2013-14.
She holds a USSF “E” License and NCSAA Goalkeeping Level III Diploma. Balogun is also completing her master’s degree in business administration at Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
