WASHINGTON — American University head women's soccer coach Anabel Hering has announced a balanced 2019 schedule that will see nine home games at Reeves Field.
"We are excited for the upcoming 2019 season," said Hering. "There are a few new opponents we will play so that it will be a nice change up along with some of the local staple competition. We have a fairly young team, and I'm looking forward to seeing how our new players mesh with the team."
American will start the season in the Carolina's with road contests at UNC Ashville on Aug. 23 and USC Upstate on Aug. 25
The Eagles will open the slate with a local home match against George Washington on Aug. 28 followed by a pair of home games against VMI on Aug. 31 and Binghamton on Sept. 6. The VMI contest will serve as Senior Day for the eight rising seniors.
AU will end its nonleague play with road matches at Richmond (Sept. 8) and Longwood (Sept. 13). The final home out-of-conference games are against Mount St. Mary's on Sept. 15 and then a midweek contest against UMBC on Oct. 9.
The Patriot League schedule starts with three of the first five games away from Reeves Field with American opening up at defending champion Boston University on Sept. 21. American hosts Holy Cross on Oct. 6 after defeating the Crusaders 4-1 on the road last year.
American will face the service academies in back-to-back home games with Army West Point traveling to D.C. on Oct. 19 and Navy making the short trek on OCt. 23.
The Eagles conclude the regular season with away games at Bucknell (Oct. 26) and Lehigh (Nov. 1).
American returns 13 upperclassmen and five sophomores from last season while welcoming ten newcomers to the roster.
