@AU_WSoccer Snaps Losing Streak With 2-1 Win at Loyola

Eagles fall to Boston U.

BALTIMORE — Kira Flaherty scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the American University women's soccer team over Loyola Maryland 2-1 on Wednesday evening.

With the win, American (2-13-0, 1-6-0 PL) picked up its first Patriot League of the season and snapped an 11-game losing streak.

The Eagles got on the board in the 23rd minute on Flaherty's first goal of the season. Audrey Denkler and Kyanna Alleyne were credited with assists. The play developed as Alleyne moved the ball from midfield before sending the ball to Denker who crossed it over to Flaherty for the finish in the box.

AU added its second goal in the 30th minute on Flaherty's second of the night after she picked up a loose ball and drilled it into the back of the net.

The Greyhounds finished with an 11-9 edge in shots and cut the deficit in the 73rd minute on a goal by Sarah Ensor with an assist by Julianna Cabrara.

Ryleigh Brown made three saves in her first win as an Eagle. Sumer Rahe stopped four for the Greyhounds.

American will stay on the road this weekend for a meeting with Lafayette on Sunday.
