BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The American University women's soccer team put up a solid performance on Saturday, but it was deterred with a 1-0 overtime loss at Lehigh in Patriot League play.
American (1-12, 0-6 PL) was outshot by Lehigh, 30-7, forcing keeper Ryleigh Brown to make 13 saves. Despite the high shot count, the Eagles played well in the defensive end and stopped a few high-level scoring chances by the Mountain Hawks.
Anika Jansa scored the lone goal in the 98th minute for Leigh off an assist from Clare Severe. The Mountain Hawks edged out the Eagles in corner kicks, 9-3, which served as the scenario for the game-winning goal.
Sam Miller made one save for Leigh on a shot by Yari Bradfield in the 53rd minute.
American returns back to Reeves Field next Saturday to host Holy Cross and welcome back all alumni including members of the 2002 Patriot League championship team.
