WASHINGTON — Ash Fairow and Natalie Dzhandzhapanyan scored in the second half for the Navy Midshipmen who defeated the American University women's soccer team, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon in Patriot League play.
American (1-10-0, 0-3-0 PL) faced an uphill battle with Navy who kept the ball inside the offensive zone for most of the contest. The Midshipmen finished the game with a 22-4 edge in shots. AU keeper Ryleigh Brown finished with a season-best 13 saves and kept the Eagles in the contest with the help from the post in the second half on a blast from Clare MacAdam.
Fairow scored in the 53rd minute with MacAdam and Dzhandzhapanyan getting credit assists. Dzhandzhapanyan finished the scoring in the 68th minute on a strike from outside the 18-yard box off a pass from Anabell Motley.
Navy finished with an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
American remains at home and hosts Colgate on Sunday at 2 p.m.
