WASHINGTON — The American University women's soccer team fell to Campbell 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Reeves Field.
American (1-6) finished deadlocked with the Camels in shots, 9-9, however, the Eagles put five of those on target compared to just two by the visitors.
Campbell got on the board in the 17th minute on a goal scored by Shannon Wratchford with an assist by Hannah Maansson. The play began with Maansson dribbling into the offensive zone before sending a pass into the box for Wratchford who deposited the ball into the far side of the net.
American had chances in the second half with four shots towards Erin Scott.
Gabriella Maldonado led the Eagles with two shots. Audrey Denkler and Samm Francucci each had a viable chance in the second half but Scott held on without allowing any rebounds.
Ryleigh Brown finished with a pair of saves for the Eagles.
American will have a short rest period, as they host Vermont on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
