@AU_WSoccer Concludes August at Longwood on Thursday

WASHINGTON — The first month of the season is set to expire on Thursday when the American University women's soccer team travels to Longwood for a non-conference match.

American (1-3) faced a tough draw at VCU over the weekend, falling to the Rams 5-0. In their home-opener, the Eagles defeated VMI, 2-1, behind goals from Toni Williams and Charly Slavick. Both are tied for the team lead in points with two. Yari Bradfield and Kyanna Alleyne were credited with assists on Williams' first collegiate goal. Amy Krotine secured the win and posts a 3.67 goals against average and a .714 save percentage. Ryleigh Brown allowed one goal through 90 minutes of relief time. Brown has seven saves and a 1.00 goals against average.

Longwood is 2-1 this season and defeated Marshall in double-overtime last Sunday, 2-1. The Lancers had their season-opener cut short due to rain and lightning against Richmond. Longwood is paced by Emilie Kupsov with three points (1g, 1a). Maria Kirby has allowed two goals on 11 shots.

American will return to Reeves Field for a three-game homestand in early September. The Eagles will face George Washington (Sept. 3), Campbell (Sept. 8) and Vermont (Sept. 10).
