Women's Soccer Draws Loyola (Md.) 2-2 on Wednesday

WASHINGTON — Alex Taylor and Audrey Denkler scored for the American University women's soccer team in a 2-2 (2ot) tie against Loyola on Wednesday afternoon at Reeves Field.

The Eagles (1-10-1, 0-2-1 PL) nearly came away with the win but Loyola's Jourdan Ziff scored with five seconds left in regulations to send the game to overtime.

Each team finished with seven shots each and AU keeper Morgan Lang had four saves.

Neither side had much offense in the opening 45 minutes, but American scored first in the second on a shot from Taylor that was driven low to Sumer Rahe's left side. Kira Flaherty was credited with the assist on the goal.

Two minutes later, Ziff tied the contest from inside the box off a feed from Morgan Crable.

The game remained tied until the 84th minute when Denkler drove a ball from 45 yards out that snuck under a kneeling Rahe to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Each team had one attempt in overtime, including a corner kick chance from Maddie Light.

American will hit the road on Saturday to face Lafayette at 1 p.m.
