WASHINGTON — After four straight games on the road, the American University women's soccer team will begin a six-game homestand beginning with Monmouth and Tennessee this weekend at Reeves Field.
The Eagles will host Longwood and VCU next week before opening Patriot League play with Colgate on Sept. 17.
Monmouth holds a 3-0 lead in the all-time season series with the Eagles and took a 1-0 victory two seasons ago in West Long Branch, New Jersey. Sunday's meeting with the Vols is the first time both schools will meet in women's soccer.
American has dropped its last two contests by a 2-1 margin and has played in extra time twice this year. The Eagles have gotten offensive contribution from five different players with sophomore Maddie Light leading the way with three points.
Monmouth fell to Drexel last Sunday and played to scoreless tie with Lehigh in its home-opener last week. The Hawks opened the season with a 3-1 loss to Bucknell on Aug. 19. Gabriella Cueva has scored the only goal for Monmouth this season in the opening contest to the Bison. Amanda Knaub has been in goal for two of the three games and posts a 0.45 goals against average.
Tennessee enters the weekend 2-2 with a contest at BYU on Friday. The Vols will then travel from Salt Lake City over to D.C. on Saturday with the hopes of missing Hermine in its path up the East Coast. Maya Neal leads the Vols with a pair of goals and Jamie Simmons has been in goal for all four matches with a 1.00 GAA.
