Women's Soccer Drops Overtime Contest at Mount St. Mary's, 2-1

EMMITSBURG, Md. — Sophomore Maddie Light scored late in regulation for the American University women's soccer team, but Mount St. Mary's scored two minutes into overtime for the 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.

American (0-4) dominated the play to the tune of a 16-6 edge in shots. The Eagles held possession in the Mount's end for the entire opening 45 minutes and went into the locker room with a 7-0 advantage in attempts.

Mount St. Mary's (1-1-1) keeper Maddy Bunnell was pushed to her limits in the second half and finished with seven saves with five coming in the second. 

The Mount took a 1-0 lead in the 78th minute on a goal by Jenna West. Sarah Harmon and Nikki Pinto were credited with assists. 

The Eagles tied the game with 3:34 left in regulation on a cross by Light that floated over Bunnell's head.

AU keeper Morgan Lang (0-3-0) made two saves in her fourth career appearance.

Chloe Cain scored the game-winner for the Mountaineers in the 93rd minute off a double header on a corner kick by Kristen Morawski.

American will open up its home portion of the schedule next weekend as part of six straight home games. The Eagles will host Monmouth on Fri., Sept. 2 and Tennessee on Sun., Sept. 4.
