Women’s Soccer Continues Road Swing at Bucknell on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The American University women's soccer team heads to Lewisburg, Pa., on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Bison in Patriot League action at 2 p.m.

The Eagles, which are playing their fifth away match in six games, takes on a 6-5-2 Bucknell squad that is unbeaten in its last three contests.

AU halted its scoreless streak in its last match, taking an early lead at Navy but could not withstand a furious comeback by the Mids in the second half.

Sophomore Michaela Garcia returned to the lineup after a one-game absence due to illness and buried her second score of the season.

It was a second-year connection as sophomore Hayley Mullins fed it to classmate Sara Perlman, who played the perfect chest pass to set up Garcia for the goal.

Despite Navy's offensive outburst in the final 40 minutes against American, goalkeeper Charlene Belanger stood tall, making 11 saves in the contest. Belanger now has 40 stops and two shutouts in nine games this season.

Bucknell is 1-1-1 in Patriot League play this year, falling at Army 2-1 in the conference opener before a scoreless draw against Lehigh and a 2-1 win at Loyola (Md.).

Kendall Ham leads the offense with five goals and 12 points. She has fired 27 shots in 13 games.

In net, Jessie Ashworth has totaled 46 saves in 12 games, posting four shutouts.
