Freshman defender Danielle Beard of the American University women's soccer team has been named the Patriot League Brine Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.

Beard played all 90 minutes as the Eagles earned a 1-0 victory at Colgate Saturday evening in the season finale. In addition to helping anchor the defensive unit, the Crofton, Md., native preserved the shutout victory with a defensive save in the 89th minute of the match. On the play, Beard denied the shot from Colgate's Alyssa Manoogian after a scramble in front of the goal.

This marks Beard's first Patriot League weekly award. She is the third different Eagle to be recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week this season as Kimberly Kroll and Hannah Tatro each previously earned the honor.

AU's victory marks the Raiders' first loss in Patriot League play. The win also snapped a four-match losing streak to Colgate as AU registered its first victory over the Raiders since 2007.
