Women’s Soccer Kicks Off Patriot League Play Saturday Against Navy

The American University women's soccer team will open its Patriot League schedule when it hosts Navy on Saturday, October 1 at 1 p.m.

American (4-7-1) heads into the weekend on the heels of a 1-0 victory over George Washington on Monday afternoon. Carleigh Morba registered the game-winner in the second half off a feed from Danielle Beard, which proved to be the difference. The Eagles controlled much of the action, outshooting the Colonials by a 19-7 margin over the 90 minutes.

The Eagles enter Patriot League play looking to record their sixth straight non-losing conference record. AU has combined for a 16-9-10 conference mark over the last five seasons, including a 9-6-6 record during Head Coach Dave Bucciero's tenure over the last three campaigns.

Navy (7-3-2) enters Saturday on a three-match unbeaten streak, most recently defeating Francis Marion, 1-0, last Sunday. The Midshipmen have picked up their other victories this season against Texas State, Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Bryant, Davidson, and Monmouth. Navy has been picked to finish fourth in this season's Patriot League preseason poll following a 2-3-2 record in conference play last year.

The all-time series between American and Navy is all squared at 7-7-3 with the Eagles capturing the last two meetings. AU won last year's matchup, 3-2, in the season finale on the strength of two goals in the final three minutes of the match. Facing a late 2-1 deficit, Kristin Piorun knocked home the game-tying goal in the 88th minute and then a minute later, Samantha Trotta recorded the game-winner.

Saturday's match, like all AU women's soccer home games, will be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV, part of AUeagles.com.
