Women’s Soccer Suffers 1-0 Defeat at Loyola (Md.)

Katelyn McFadden struck with the game's lone score to lift Loyola (Md.) to a 1-0 victory over the American University women's soccer team Wednesday afternoon in Baltimore, Md.

On the goal for Loyola (2-7-0), which came in the 32nd minute of play, Gianna Mangione fed a pass to McFadden, who slid a shot past AU goalkeeper Klare Lazor. The score proved to hold up over the next 50-plus minutes as American (3-6-1) was unable to find the equalizer.

"I thought we played much better in the second half once and we were able to generate some opportunities," Head Coach Dave Bucciero said. "We were not physical enough in the first half and as a result, gave away a lot of chances. We have to be more physical over the full 90 minutes to have sustained success."

There were only five combined shots on goal recorded in the match, three by the Greyhounds and two for American. Loyola held a 10-5 advantage in total shots over the 90 minutes.

The Eagles will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with two home matches this weekend, beginning on Saturday, September 24 against Richmond at 3 p.m. AU will then host George Washington on Monday, September 26 at 4 p.m. before opening its Patriot League slate against Navy on Saturday, October 1 at 1 p.m. All three of these upcoming home matches will be available on Eagles Vision TV.
