The American University women's soccer team will travel to Burlington, Vt., this weekend for a pair of matches, beginning with a contest against New Hampshire this Friday, August 26 at 4 p.m. The Eagles will then take on host Vermont on Sunday, August 28 at 1 p.m.
American (1-1) split its opening two matches of the 2011 season, defeating UMBC last Friday in the season opener before falling to No. 23 Georgetown on Sunday. In the victory over UMBC, junior Carleigh Morba registered AU's first score while sophomore Shaena Alfonsi tallied the game-winner. Junior Jasmine Mohandesi, as well as freshmen Lindsay Muri and Nicole Paviglionite, each recorded assists in the match.
New Hampshire (0-1) dropped its season opener Tuesday, a 2-1 decision to Massachusetts. The Wildcats finished with an 8-8-4 record in 2010, falling in the quarterfinals of the America East conference tournament to Albany. Friday's matchup will be the first ever meeting between American and New Hampshire.
Vermont (0-1-1) has recorded a draw and a loss in its first two matches of 2011. The Catamounts opened the campaign with a 5-1 loss to Patriot League opponent Colgate before responding with a 1-1 draw against Rhode Island on Tuesday. Vermont finished last season with a 2-16 record, which included a 2-1 loss to AU last September 24 at Reeves Field. Last year's meeting was the only other time that these two programs have faced each other.
