AU Lacrosse Names Kira Sonberg, Amanda Makoid and Lisa Schaaf 2009 Captains

WASHINGTON - AU head coach Katie Woods announced team captains for the 2009 season. Senior Kira Sonberg and juniors Amanda Makoid and Lisa Schaaf were awarded the honor.

"We're very excited to name Kira, Amanda and Lisa as captains for the 2009 season," Woods said. "We have a strong, excited and passionate new team and these three captains have the opportunity to use their strong leadership skills to drive and excel us through the season."

Sonberg is coming off a junior campaign in which she helped lead the Eagles on the attack, she scored 16 goals and tallied 9 assists for a total of 25 points on the season. Kira has the unique ability to lead by example through her relentless desire to succeed both on and off the field. She received Academic Honor Roll status for 2008 and was one of 159 Division I student-athletes to earn the award.

Makoid will help lead the midfield with her strong skills and presence on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field. She has an undeniable passion for the sport and leads through emotion and pure dedication.

Schaaf is one of the most determined workers on the team in every aspect of a student-athlete. She has strong attacking skills and has the ability to see things on the field before they unfold. During the 2008 campaign, Schaaf contributed in big plays to help swing game momentum in favor of the Eagles.

American will open its 2009 season at home against Ohio State at Jacobs Field on February, 12th.
