STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Three Eagles tallied three goals, but it was not enough as American University fell to Stony Brook in women's lacrosse action, 14-12, on Saturday.

American tallied first, as Brittany Finnegan scored an unassisted goal just over two minutes into the game. Stony Brook would score the next three, including two from Diana Caroleo to claim a 3-1 lead until Jackie Lane fed Lauren Aksionoff on a goal to cut the lead to 3-2 with 23:03 left in the first.

Stony Brook reclaimed a two-goal advantage at 12:54 on goals from Amy Hallion and Elizabeth Montreuil. Finnegan tallied her second goal of the game for the Eagles, but the Seawolves responded less than a minute later on Hallion's second goal to put the score at 6-3.

Brit Ferguson continued the American fight back with a marker and Aksionoff tallied her second of the contest to pull the Eagles within one, down 6-5, heading into the second half.

Kaitlin Leggio opened up the second half with a goal at 27:16 for Stony Brook, but American's Aksionoff completed the hat trick to pull back to a goal down, 7-6 at 25:14. Down six, the Eagles refused to give up as Finnegan finished her third goal of the game to put the score at 14-9. Another J. Lane goal cut the deficit to 14-10, but American was running out of time, with just over four minutes to play.

Ferguson tallied her second of the game and the Eagles took the draw control into Seawolve territory and earned a free position shot that J. Lane promptly buried, but time expired to give Stony Brook the 14-12 win.

Finnegan, Aksionoff and J. Lane each scored three goals, while Finnegan added two and Leslie Fischer tallied one.

Caroleo finished with five goals and an assist while Leggio scored two goals and added four assists for Stony Brook.
