AU Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 12 George Mason, 15-7

WASHINGTON - American University fell to twelfth ranked George Mason, 15-7, in non-conference lacrosse action on Wednesday at Jacobs Field. Brittany Berger and Laura King each netted four goals for the Patriots in the win, while Jackie Lane led the Eagles with three scores.

The Patriots struck first, scoring three goals in seven minutes to take a 3-0 lead over the Eagles with 23:45 left in the first half. Lauren Aksionoff put American on the board just over a minute later to cut the lead to 3-1. George Mason responded with a 3-0 run to go up 6-1, but American fought back to score the next two goals on tallies from Leslie Fischer and Jackie Lane to put the score at 6-3 just into the second half.

George Mason would go on to score the next four goals and open up a 10-3 lead that American just could not come back from. Kira Sonberg's goal from Lauren Lane at the 16:39 mark stopped the Patriots streak, but they continued to press the offense and would outscore the Eagles 5-3 over the remainder of the game.

Jackie Lane finished with three goals and one assist for a team-leading four points. Sonberg and Gina Ibello each tallied a goal and an assist, while Fischer and Aksionoff each scored a goal. Lauren Lane had two assists.

Kristine Vida had her fourth straight double-digit save game, stopping 15 shots and picking up a team-high six ground balls. Jackie Lane picked up five ground balls.

The Eagles will play another non-conference opponent on Saturday when they play at 1 p.m. at Stony Brook. The game is the first of a five-game stretch that American will play on the road.
