AU Lacrosse Takes Conference Opener from Bucknell, 16-9

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior attacker Lauren Lane scored four goals and added an assist to lead the American University women's lacrosse team to a 16-9 win over Bucknell in its Patriot League opener at Lewisburg, Pa. on Saturday. The Eagles improve to 2-4, 1-0 PL, while Bucknell evens its record at 1-1, 0-1 PL.
Bucknell jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game. American responded with goals from L. Lane, Amanda Makoid and Brittany Finnegan to take a 3-2 lead half way through the first. Bucknell found an equalizer, but Jackie Lane's goal with 11:16 left in the first half would give the Eagle's the lead for good, as they closed the first half with a 7-0 run to take a 10-3 lead into the half. Bucknell was only able to match the Eagles goal-for-goal in the second half as American rolled to the 16-9 final.
Ten different Eagles scored a point in the contest, with L. Lane leading the way with five. Lauren Aksionoff scored three goals and two assists, while J. Lane had three goals and Makoid finished with two goals and an assist.HREF="http://aueagles.cstv.com/sports/w-lacros/mtt/sonberg_kira00.html" >Kira Sonberg (1 g, 1 a), Brittany Finnegan (1 g), Maeve Koch (1 g), Lisa Schaaf (1 g,2 a), Caitlin Bell (1 a) and Gina Ibello (1 a) also registered points for American.
Carol Donohue scored three goals and added an assist for Bucknell in the loss.
Kristine Vida earned the win in goal for American, making eight saves and two ground balls. Caitlin Bell led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with three. J. Lane had three draw controls.
American will return to action on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Longwood in non-conference action.
